The primary objective of this course is to understand the customs and rituals of Sandawe tribe living near Kondoa, Tanzania, between the Bubu and Mponde rivers. Highlighting on the spiritual culture with an emphasis on animism, this course gives more emphasis on ceremonials and rituals of the Sandawe. Further, the course details on how the Sandawe maintain an identity separate from their neighbouring groups, and consider themselves the descendants of hunter-gatherer ancestors from Southern Africa.
As many aspects of Sandawe culture show the influence of their customs and beliefs, this course throws light on traditional way of praying to the spirits. The ceremonials and rituals differing from one another are explained in brief in the course. The importance of God Warange and the rituals to it portrays the strong religious belief of the Sandawe. Moreover, the course gives more insight on the rituals during harvest and courtship and unique curing rituals of Sandawe with their trances.
